THE AMERICAN SHIP "JAMES NESMITH." ATTRIBUTED TO DUNCAN MCFARLANE (BRITISH 1818-1865). TOGETHER WITH SHIP'S LOG BOOK, 1862-1863, AND OTHER PAPERS. Depicted inward bound to Liverpool, making ready to receive a pilot off Point Lynas, Anglesley. The Nesmith, built at Thomaston, Maine in 1850 for Stetson Walker, Mills & Co., was put into service in the transatlantic cotton and grain trade.Watercolor on paper, 20 x 28 1/2 inches. Accompanied by the log book kept during a voyage commanded by Edwin Watts of Thomaston; the packet of outfitting papers and bills dating from August 31, 1855.
