Notes

"And still there remains traces of tribute and remembrance of some distant inspiration of broader references to the 'New Sculpture' and the abstract-expressionistic daring and sophistication of American direct-metal pioneers, Theodore Roszak or David Smith. As with the Nafas sculptures, Shariman brings to these new works, with innovation and unconscious ease, a rich calligraphic strain in their construction which - for the artist - forms deeply felt links with his religion, literary and artistic heritage.

There are three streams of thought that run through these works - there are those that draw directly from silat like Langkah Tari, Langkah Panglima and Hulubalang Bumi ."
