"People sometimes ask me why I choose the subject of "Children in Meeting" and I would tell them that it is because of criticism directed at my previous series of paintings "Adults in Meeting." So I simply switched to children. Also, at that time I had started to give painting lessons to children. In the army I was in charge of propaganda at the Political Department. Apart from preparing the setting for gatherings, writing slogans and taking pictures, I was also responsible for the art education of the children in the army. I was appointed by the captain to teach children art and painting so as to occupy their time during school holidays. I have been doing this for eight to nine years and am still doing it. The studio is the classroom. While the adults are in "meeting," at the same time children are raising their hands to answer my questions. It is so easy to associate the two scenes. Though it is a coincidence, adopting children as a theme for my paintings is not exactly a ploy to help escape criticisms. It is also the result of careful consideration."
