V. Lebedev, V. A. Tambi was the leading Soviet designer of technological picture books. "Lebedev valued the encyclopedic knowledge of Tambi, who was enamored of the technical aspects of machines, ships, automobiles, and airplanes," Valentin Kurdov recalled. He was a master at reducing complex machinery to its essence. He was also a brilliant colorist. Here he uses a water race to introduce young readers to all kinds of boats.
