Item Overview

Description

and dated, label verso from Willard Galleries, NYC. Important Hawaiian abstract painter. Sato studied with Stuart Davis, Ralston Crawford and John Ferren. The influence of Davis and Crawford is very evident in Sato’s painting style during the 1940s, but he moved away from hard edge abstraction by the 1960s, adopting a softer, more diffused approach, clearly seen in this example.
