Description

T**F**Doyle Architects Drawing of the Temple of the Winds, Shugborough, Staffordshie signed and dated 1929, 66cm x 50cm This tempietto at Lord Lichfield's seat was designed by James ('Athenian') Stuart (1713-1788) as a representation of the Horlogium of Andronicus Cyrrhestes at Athens, and built by Charles Cope Trubshaw of Great Heywood (1715-1772) in 1765 and intended as a dairy with a prospect room over, later used for gambling.
