Description

This first edition lithograph is from William Swainson's Zoological Illustrations, or Original Figures and Descriptions... The work was published between 1820 and 1833 in London by R. & A. Taylor.

Swainson voyaged to Brazil and documented thousands of animals and plants which led to this work. He was a pioneer in the use of lithography for natural history illustrations and considererd one of the best zoological artists of his time. The work documented many new or very rare species for the first time.

The work is in very good to excellent condition overall. Some of the plates in the work may exhibit faint offset, toning, or minor imperfections or fox marks to be expected with age, but generally excellent condition.
