Directement inspirée du courant archéologique en vogue à la fin du XVIIIe siècle, cette somptueuse suite de quatre sièges en acajou mouluré et sculpté trouve son origine dans la forme du siège curule antique ou médiéval sur lequel s'asseyaient les gouvernants et magistrats romains puis les évêques. Chaque fauteuil présente un piétement formé de deux « X », de section carrée à bordures moulurées, terminés à griffes et joints par une assise et des accotoirs courbes. Les montants supérieurs du « X » antérieur sont ponctués par deux imposantes têtes de lion en acajou sculptées de manière naturaliste. Une rosace stylisée, également sculptée en acajou et insérée au sein d'un disque à double bordure, souligne la jonction de chaque « X ». Un dossier, rectangulaire, garni de cuir et à bordure en acajou apparent et mouluré, repose, légèrement incliné vers l'arrière, sur le « X » postérieur. On doit la résurrection de cette forme si singulière et originale de siège à Charles Percier et Pierre-François Léonard Fontaine , célèbres architectes de Bonaparte, qui la publièrent notamment en 1801, planche 39 de leur fameux Recueil de décorations intérieures. Les frères Jacob furent parmi les premiers à l'exécuter, sous la forme de tabourets en X ornés de têtes de lion et livrés vers 1800 pour le Palais des Tuileries à Paris . Il est à noter que Jean- Baptiste-Pierre Demay réalisa également, au cours de la même période, des sièges très proches de ceux présentés ici.

Purchasers pay in addition to the hammer price, a buyer's premium from 0 to e 500 000:
25,20% (21 % + VAT).
For amounts superior to e 500 000: 19% (15,83% + VAT).
Lots from outside the EEC: (indentified by an*). In addition to the commissions and taxes indicated above, an additional import VAT will be charged (7% of the hammer price, 20% for jewelry).
For any member of the EEC, non assembled stones are liable to VAT 20%.
The auctioneer is bound by the indications in the catalogue, modified only by eventual announcements made at the time of the sale noted into the legal records thereof. Prospective bidders should inspect the property before bidding to determine its condition, size, and wether or not it has been repaired, restored or repainted. Exhibitions prior to the sale at Marc-Arthur Kohn or on the sale point permits buyers to establish the condition of the works offered for sale, and therefore no claims will be accepted after the fall of the hammer. Pictures may differ from actual product.

BIDS
Biddings will be in accordance with the lot numbers listed in the catalogue or as announced by the auctioneer, and will be in increments determined by the auctioneer. The highest and last bidder will be the purchaser. Should the auctioneer recognize two simultaneous bids on
an object, the lot will be put up for sale again and all those present in the sale room may participate in this second opportunity to bid.
