Lot 62: Studio of Wolf Traut (circa 1480/5-1520)

Meyer, for confirming that the present lot can be dated to circa 1510/5 and must have been made in Nuremberg, in a letter dated 31 August 2001. He compares it with Traut's wings of the High Altar of the Church of Saint John in Nuremberg, painted in circa 1511/2 (P. Strieder, Tafelmalerei in Nrnberg 1350-1550, 1993, pp.147/8, ill.), but notes that it lacks the quality of Traut's work and should therefore be regarded as a studio painting, perhaps by the same anonymous hand responible for the Altar of Saint Martha in the Church of Saint Lawrence, Nuremberg (P. Strieder, op. cit., p.276, ill.).
