Description

A SURVEY OF THE CITIES OF LONDON AND WESTMINSTER, AND THE BOROUGH OF SOUTHWARK... THE SIXTH EDITION. LONDON: FOR W. INNYS AND J. RICHARDSON [&C.], 1754-1755

2 volumes, folio (407 x 245mm.), titles printed in red and black, 131 (of 132) engraved plates, maps and plans, many folding, the large folding engraved map of London backed on linen, early twentieth-century panelled calf, spines in compartments with raised bands, lacking plate 19 (no.72, Greenwich Hospital), title of vol.1 with repaired tear, light spotting to text and plates, a few leaves of text torn (without loss of text), plate 68 (no.120) torn without loss, title of plate 53 (no.126) corrected in ink manuscript, occasional creasing to plates, spines and extremities slightly worn

NOTE

Arguably the best edition, with the famous series of plates of London squares, all of them built since the previous survey, the fifth edition of 1720. The amendments to the text in this edition, are, like those of the 1720 edition, by Strype.
