Signed on the reverse, dated and inscribed Thoυs Sharpe Smith, of Brockley/ Hill. Middlesex. by Denning of/ Dulwich, 1834 below a coat-of-arms and the motto Integra Mens Auggustima Possessio, foliate-pattern ormolu frame.

Thomas Sharpe Smith was the author of a pamphlet, On the Economy of Nations, which he published in 1842 and which outlined his arguments for and against the controversial Corn Laws.
