Description

Staffordshire Bull Terrier by W.H. Davis (British, 1795-1885), oil on canvas, signed l.r.; 20" high x 23.5" wide (sight).

William Henry Davis was an animal painter who portrayed many cattle, sheep, horses and hounds. He was appointed as animal painter to William IV in 1837 and Queen Victoria in 1839. He exhibited over 30 works at the Royal Academy, London. In a gilt frame, 24.5" x 28".
