SOUCEK Karel (26. 9. 1915 Krocehlavy - 26. 11. 1982 Kladno) The Three Graces Tempera on paper, 47 x 67 cm, mounted, glazed, dated 1964, signed lower left. Czech painter and illustrator, he studied at the Academy of Arts in Prague, where he was later appointed professor. He was a member of the group Skupina 42, whose poetics influenced his entire work. He laid emphasis on the role of light, his work is of dramatic character. The mining town of Kladno was a major source of inspiration for him. See T 2/471, TD 171, V 4/320, B 9/717, NECVU 2/770.
