[SMITH, James Edward (1759-1828). Icones pictae plantarum rariorum, descriptionibus et observationibus illustratae, or Coloured Figures of Rare Plants. London: 1790-93]. 2° (470 x 285mm). Dedication leaves to the Marchioness of Rockingham in Latin and English, 18 hand-coloured engraved plates by J. Sowerby, one double-page (lacks title, a few isolated spots, a few plates cropped into plate mark but not affecting image or letters). Contemporary half reversed calf (rubbed, some scuffing). Provenance: J. E. Smith (early signature on first dedication leaf, possibly that of the author) -- J. Forster (two early signatures on front free endpaper and first dedication leaf) -- Forster library stamp on first dedication leaf. Nissen BBI 1859; Pritzel 8736; Sitwell Great Flower Books p.140.

Together with Pierre Corneille van Geel's Sertum Botanicum (Brussels, 1827, one livraison only containing just 12 hand-coloured lithographed plates). (2)
