Description

Signed and dated in the plate upper left and signed in ink lower right. Numbered 2 in an edition of 50. Titled in ink lower left. Albert Alexander Smith, African-American - New York, 1896 - 1940. Smith was the first African American to study at the National Academy of Design, had extensive training in printmaking and was likely the first African-American to produce an etching. From a Scarsdale, NY home. Dimensions: plate - 7 1/8" high x 5 1/2" wide. Condition: Good. Paper slightly toned but a strong impression. Not examined out of frame.
