Skeaping (John Rattenbury, 1901-1980). Huntsman with stag and hounds, 1966, gouache on paper, signed and dated, 535 x 730 mm (21 x 28.75 ins), framed and glazed John Skeaping was born in 1901 and trained at the Blackheath School of Art, Goldsmith's College, Central School of Art and Crafts and the Royal Academy Schools. He married the artist Barbara Hepworth in 1925. Skeaping is best-known for his pictures and sculptures of animals, especially dogs and horses. A retrospective of his work was held at Ackermann & Son in 1991. (1)
