8 1/2 x 10 1/2 inches 21.6 x 26 centimeters on verso titled, dated 1932 on the Hart House gallery label and inscribed "To Arch + Dee, A souvenir of the Lake of Bays trip of 1932" [signed] F.G. Banting, on a label Provenance:A gift from the Artist to Dr. C. Archibald Wells, Toronto
Private Collection, Ontario Exhibited:Hart House, University of Toronto, Exhibition of Paintings by The Late Sir Frederick Banting, February 13 - March 1, 1943 Frederick Banting's sketching trips with members of the Group of Seven, particularly with A.Y. Jackson, are well documented. Burnt Lake, Dorset, Ontario was painted in 1932 while Banting was spending time in the Haliburton area with his friends Dee and Archibald Wells, who later loaned the work to the 1943 Hart House Exhibition. Around 1970, Mrs. Wells gifted this painting to its current owner, who was her physician at that time.
