626. ALEXANDER SIMPLOT (1837-1914) American artist best known for his renderings of military scenes undertaken in the field, done in the most part for Harper's Weekly. Original signed pencil and ink drawing "Alex. Simplot", 15" x
9 1/4", [n.d., though almost undoubtedly war-date], an image of a steamboat discharging supplies, armed soldiers, tents and a wagon train, with cannons on guard in the background, captioned by him "PITSBURG LANDING - AFTER THE BATTLE". Very good. $400-500
