Notes

Sigvard Bernadotte was a member of the Swedish Royal family (uncle to the present King of Sweden and brother to the late Queen Ingrid of Denmark.) He studied Art History at Uppsala University and design at Konsthögskolan (School of Decorative Arts) in Stockholm before joining Georg Jensen in 1930. His design are typical of the modernist designs produced by Jensen in the 30's and 40's, many based on the neo-classical but very stream-lined with minimal decoration. During the 15 years he was with Jensen, he designed around 150 pieces of hollow ware, many of which are now design classics, including the jug in the present lot.
