The fine plates were engraved by C.H. Hemmerich and James Basire after Sheldrake's drawings. Each plate illustrates a plant within an oval frame, surrounded by text giving it's name in Arabic, Greek, Latin, and the major European vernacular languages. Henrey notes that the work is "often found without a title-page and with fewer plates than 118."
