SHARON HUNTERBLUE CITY WOLFoil on canvassigned 20 ins x 16 ins; 50.8 cms x 40.6 cms Provenance:Private Collection, OntarioLiterature:Petroni, Steffanie, “Sharon Hunter: Mural Artist Finds Inspiration in Rural Algoma,” in Northern Hoot, 29 August 2015, Accessed 13 March 2017, Hunter is a Canadian artist and art educator. Her work plays on the dichotomy between urban and rural landscapes and recounts the narratives of the North. Hunter is best known for her mural projects along major highways. “Parallel Route,” along Highway 17, captures the stories of the First Nations people in the Algoma district and their relationship with land and the animals around them. “...The most important part of it was meeting with the different communities and just hearing about what they wanted to see...I met with the Batchewana First Nations elders and youth. They had very strong ideas that connected to the land, people and how we relate to each other…” she explains of her process. Smaller oil paintings continue the exploration of relationships and the various landscapes, breaking them down into geometric forms and simple lines.Estimate: $700–900
