Ce secrétaire de forme galbée à doucine ouvre par un abattant formant écritoire tendue de cuir découvrant six tiroirs et huit casiers, deux vantaux en partie inférieure et un tiroir au sommet. Il est coiffé d’un marbre et repose sur de petits pieds cambrés protégés par des sabots en bronze doré.
L’ensemble du meuble se pare d’un placage de bois de rose travaillé en ailes de papillon et bois de bout créant une harmonie d’une grande élégance.
Ce meuble est signé de Pierre Migeon. Issu d’une famille d’ébénistes, tous prénommés Pierre, Pierre IV est le plus réputé de tous, fournissant depuis son atelier prospère de la rue de Charenton une riche clientèle aristocratique, comme le Duc d’Orléans, la Duchesse de Rohan, la Duchesse d’Epernon ou le Maréchal de Noailles. Dès les années 1740, il livre pour le Garde-meuble de la Couronne et les Menus-Plaisirs en bénéficiant de la protection de la Marquise de Pompadour.
Le style de Pierre Migeon est à la fois traditionnaliste avec l’emploi de formes anciennes issues de la Régence et un précurseur avec des décors marquetés ou plaqués novateurs. Ses lignes sont sobres, massives et élégantes alliées à un jeu sophistiqué des placages. L’un des motifs les plus caractéristiques de sa manière est le placage dit en ailes de papillon;
l’ébéniste l’insère de manière récurrente dans une réserve polylobée, elle-même considérée comme une de ses marques de fabrique. Pierre Migeon réalisa aussi, mais dans une moindre mesure, des marqueteries de losanges, de cubes ou encore de fleurs de très belle qualité probablement pour répondre aux attentes de sa clientèle. Elles se présentent généralement en bois de couleur sur fond de satiné ou de bois de rose, encadrées et compartimentées par des jeux de rinceaux sinueux. Les bronzes ne sont jamais en surcharge et doivent uniquement répondre à une réelle nécessité (sabots de protection ou entrées de serrure).

BIDS
