SEBASTIAN MÜNSTER (1488 -1552), COSMOGRAPHIA, published 1598. Basle, 1598. Cosmographey: das ist, Beschreibung aller Länder, Herrschafften vnd fürnemesten Stetten des gantzen Erdbodens (...). It is one of the most famous books of well known cartographer Sebastian Münster. It was first published in 1544. This copy is a German edition from 1598 that was published by Sebastian Petri, son of Sebastian Münster who took over father's workroom and continued in his work. Last German edition is from 1628. Münsters' maps have been noticed for high quality of details and were further used by other map makers such as Gerhard Mercator or Abraham Ortelius. Cosmographia describes whole world and known information about it such as was habit in that time. Book consists of 26 double-paged maps, over 80 panoramic views and more then 1000 woodcuts with animals, battles, people and allegorical views by authors such as Hans Rudolf Manuel (1525-1571), David Kandel (1520-1592), Jakob Clauser (1520-1579), Heinrich Holzmüller or Christoph Schweicker. Cosmographia consists of six volumes. Volume I talks about astronomy, mathematic and physics, volume II is about England, Spain, France and Italy, volume III talks about Germany and surrounding lands, volume IV about Northern, Eastern, Southern Europe, volume V is about Asia and volume VI about Africa. Binded in wood covered with leather and decorated by blind blocking motif. Binding is set in original, uncompleted latch. Condition A. Sebastian Münster - German carhograph and encyclopediast. In 1527 was made a professor of Hebrew in university in Basle where he stayed for the rest of his life. His map making became one of the most published encyclopedias of the 16th century and was published in many languages. After his death was his work continued by his son Sebastian Petri.

Jde o jednu z nejproslulejších knih známého kartografa Sebastiana Münstera. Poprvé byla vydána v r. 1544. Tento exemplář je německá edice z r. 1598, která byla vydána Sebastianem Petrim, synem Sebastiana Münstera, krerý převzal otcovu dílnu a ve vydávání jeho kosmografie dále pokračoval. Poslední německé vydání je z r. 1628. Münsterovy mapy se vyznačovaly na danou dobu vysokou přesností a byly dále přejímány ostatními kartografy, jako byli např. Gerhard Mercator nebo Abraham Ortelius. Kosmografie popisuje celý svět a rozličné vědomosti o něm, jak bylo v té době zvykem. Kniha obsahuje 26 dvoustránkových map, přes 80 panoramatických pohledů a více než 1 000 dřevorytů se zvířaty, bitvami, lidmi a alegorickými výjevy od autorů, jako byl např. Hans Rudolf Manuel (1525-1571), David Kandel (1520-1592), Jakob Clauser (1520-1579), Heinrich Holzmüller nebo Christoph Schweicker. Cosmographia je sestavena do šesti knih. Kniha I obsahuje pojednání o astronomii, matematice a fyzice, kniha II obsahuje informace o Anglii Španělsku, Francii a Itálii, kniha III pojednává o Německu a přilehlých zemích, kniha IV o severní, východní a jihovýchodní Evropě, kniha V o Asii a Americe a Kniha VI se zabývá Afrikou. Formát 20, vázáno ve dřevěných deskách potažených kůží zdobenou slepotiskovým dekorem. Vazba je opatřena původními, nekompletními petlicemi. Stav A. Sebastian Münster - německý kartograf a encyklopedista. V roce 1527 byl ustanovený profesorem hebrejštiny na universitě v Basileji, kde působil po zbytek života. Jeho cartografie se stala v 16. stol. jednou z nejvydávanějších encyklopedií a vycházela v mnoha jazykových mutacích. Po jeho smrti ve vydávání cosmografie pokračoval jeho syn Sebastian Petri.

Eines der bekanntesten Bücher des Kartographen Sebastian Münster. Zuerst herausgegeben im Jahr 1544 - dieses Exemplar ist die deutsche Edition aus dem Jahr 1598, die von Sebastian Münsters Sohn - Sebastian Henric Petri, der die Werkstatt seines Vaters übernahm, herausgegeben wurde. Die letzte deutsche Edition stammt aus dem Jahr 1628. Münsters Landkarten waren sehr genau dargestellt und wurden auch von anderen Kartographen wie Gerhard Mercator oder Abraham Ortelius übernommen. Kosmographie beschreibt die ganze Welt und verschiedene Kenntnisse über die Welt wie es damals gewöhnlich war. Enthält 26 doppelseitige Landkarten, 80 panoramatische Ansichten und mehr als 1 000 Holzstiche mit Tieren, Schlagen, Leuten und allegorischen Szenen von verschiedenen Künstlern wie zum Beispiel Hans Rudolf Manuel (1525-1571), David Kandel (1520-1592), Jakob Clauser (1520-1579), Heinrich Holzmüller oder Christoph Schweicker. Cosmographia ist in 6 Büchern gebunden, Buch I enthält Astronomie, Mathematik und Physik, Buch II Informationen über England, Spanien, Frankreich und Italien, Buch III behandelt über Deutschland und anliegenden Ländern, Buch IV über Nord-, Ost- und Südosteuropa, Buch V über Asien und Amerika und Buch VI beschäftigt sich mit Afrika. Format 20, gebunden in lederbezogener Holzmappe mit Blinddruck-Dekoration. Ursprünglicher, aber inkompletter Riegel. Zustand A. Sebastian Münster war ein deutscher Kartograph und Enzyklopädist. Im Jahr 1527 wurde er Professor der hebräischen Sprache an der Universität Basel, wo er bis zu seinem Tod wirkte. Seine Cosmographia wurde eine der meinst verkauften Enzyklopädien des 16. Jhs. und wurde in viele Sprachen übersetzt.

Auction announcement

on holding of the public Auction, in the sence of Law no. 26/2000 Coll.

I. Auctioneer

Tomáš Zezula, Identification Number 14629585 conducts the public Auction at the request of the owners of the objects. This Auction will be held in the Auction house Zezula, 142c Hlinky Street, Brno, Czech Republic.

II. Auctioned items

Each item (or group of items) obtains its number according to the catalogue along with the description and the opening bid. All items may be examined during the exhibition in the Auction House Zezula. On the day of auction the items are not exhibited.

All information in the catalogue is based on scientific knowledge published or otherwise available before the date of auction. Information in the printed catalogue may be updated on the internet page of the catalogue. The Auction House Zezula retains the right to correct any information about the auctioned items published in the catalogue. Any corrections will be visibly placed in the auction venue and verbally announced by the auctioneer before auctioning of the relevant item.

Items listed in the catalogue with the * symbol have been declared cultural monuments by the state and are subject to the Law no. 20/1987 Coll. about the state care of historical monuments as amended by the subsequent Law no. 242/1992 Coll., no. 361/1999 Coll., no. 122/2000 Coll., no. 132/2000 Coll., no. 146/2001 Coll. and no. 320/2002 Coll.

III. Course of the auction

Before the beginning of the auction the bidder is required to fill out the Participant Identification Form on the base of which he obtains the auction number. This procedure is free of charge.

The auctioneer announces the serial number of the item, its brief description and opening bid. After this calling the bidders, i.e. the owners of the auction number, can bid up with the raising of the auction number. The auction of the item continues until no further bids are made.

The sequence of increments is settled by the Auctioneer. The bidders in the auction hall take precedence. At the coincidence of the same written limits the sequence is settled by the Auctioneer.

IV. Successful bidder's obligations

The successful bidder must complete his obligation within 10 days after the holding of the auction. The price attained in the auction hall will be increased by a 15% buyer's premium including VAT.

Every person concerned is obliged to see the items of his concern beforehand during the exhibition, eventually have the item inspected by an external expert. Objections to the auctioned items concerning the price, condition or state of the items are not accepted after the auction has concluded.

V. Bidding in absentia

After preliminary agreement the bidder may bid for any item in his absence:
if he submits an attested Power of Attorney to Tomáš Zezula, ICO: 14629585, to represent him at the auction and if he determines the item number and the limit up to which it is possible to increase the bids (for each item separately);
'phone' bids are also available after preliminary written agreement at the phone numbers 777 911 791-3. These numbers will be active only on the date of the auction and inaccessible for incoming calls.

The auction limits for bidding by phone are accepted for items with an opening bid of CZK 300 or higher. The Auction House Zezula is not responsible for any connection failure due to telecommunications or inaccessibility of the called party.

The Power of Attorney form for sending price limits or requisitions for phone bidding may be found in PDF format on internet pages (http://www.papilio.cz/en/index.php?id=plna_moc) or it may be sent on request.

The written, faxed or e-mailed price limits will be accepted till the end of the exhibition. The auction limits sent after the deadline will be accepted only if possible and without guarantee. No regard will be paid to the limits sent after the auction commencement.

Bidder bidding in their absence through the bidding limits will be informed about the auction's results in writing. Complete result list of the auction will be published at the internet address www.papilio.cz the next following business day after the end of the auction.

VI. Payment for the item

The bidders may make the payment by cash, by bank transfer within fixed course of time, or by credit cards. Cheques are not accepted. In case of bank transfer payment all charges connected with the procedure are chargeable to the buyer.

VII. Dispensation and collection of the item

Items may be paid and collected at the auction venue during the course of the auction and after it on the same day. The auctioned off items may be further paid and collected within the next three business days after the auction from 10.00-17.00, at the Auction House Zezula, Hlinky 142c, phone No. +420 543 215 704, where all administration will be handled.

Outside official dispensation hours individual collection of items is possible after a preliminary agreement at phone No. +420 541 214 436, Mon-Fri, 10.00-17.00.

VII. Sale after the auction

Items which were not auctioned off (unless the owner determines otherwise) will be available for the opening bid plus a 15% commission.
