Engraved proof title-page by and after Gooden, signed and dated in pencil by Gooden beneath, text engraved throughout by Charles Sigrist and printed on rectos only. Loosely-inserted 'Proposal' bifolium and single-leaf edition statement. (Some very light marginal browning.) Original brown morocco gilt by John P. Gray & Son Ltd, Cambridge, spine titled in gilt, upper board with gilt 'SS' monogram, gilt edges (a few light scuffs); later morocco-backed box.

FIRST EDITION, LIMITED TO 303 SIGNED COPIES, THIS NO. III OF 23 SIGNED LARGE-PAPER COPIES; a fine copy retaining both the 'Proposal' and the statement of limitation. Keynes states that, 'The number of copies (23) on large paper was determined by the number of sheets of fine old paper, dated 1805 in the watermark, which I happened to possess'. Keynes A39b.
