Notes

The first is a George II design for a chimney-piece in the antique or Roman manner and its freize displays an heroic peace trophy of arms and furled pannants centred by a plumed helmet. The scabbard-like pilasters are enriched with tablets of antique flutes and entwined ribbon-guilloche.

The second drawing is a George II design for a chimney-piece serpentined in the French 'picturesque' manner with its frieze displaying a shell-centred acanthus cartouche, while more foliage issues from the voluted trusses of the canted pilasters. One of the latter is more enriched than the other.

No VAT will be charged on the hammer price, but VAT at 17.5% will be added to the buyer's premium which is invoiced on a VAT inclusive basis
