Notes

Samuel Wale was born in Yarmouth and trained as a silver engraver. He was also a prolific book illustrator who contributed to various publications on the history of England. Wale studied under Hayman at St.Martin's Lane Academy and later assisted John Gwynn in making architectural drawings. He exhibited his works at the Society of Artists from 1760 to 1767 and was a Foundation Member of the Royal Academy, exhibiting there from 1769 to 1778
