The subject of the principal field of this design follows a story from the Acts of the Apostles (9:43). Saint Peter, having been at Lydda, was called by the faithful to Joppa (Jaffa) where through prayer he raised Tabitha from the dead. Afterwards 'he tarried many days in Joppa with one Simon a tanner'.
