RUSSLAND ZARENREICH Bogdan (Gottfried) Pavlovic Willewalde (1818 - 1903) - two Russian cavalrymen Oil on wood (walnut) signed in Cyrillic on the lower left G. Willewald 1864. Two members of the Russian light cavalry meet at the edge of a birch forest. Signs of age. Dimensions circa 27.5 x 38.5 cm. The well-known Russian painter of military and battle scenes Bogdan (Gottfried) Pavlovic Willewalde (who also signed with Willewald) was a student of K. Brullov professor at the St. Petersburg academy and official war painter of the Tsars Nicholas I and Alexander II. The imperial family owned a number of his paintings. His works are also displayed in several Russian museums. Rare painting a personal gift from the artist.
