A bronze bust of Samuel L. Clemens in old age, signed on the right lapel ("Walter Russell 1935"), cast at the A. Basky Foundry, New York, (12? x 7? in.; 317 x 190 mm), secured to a green marble base (5? x 5?. 5? in.; 137 x 137 x 137 mm). Walter Russell (1871?1963) had an active career that included sculpture, portrait painting, book illustration, and writing. He studied with Albert Munsell, Ernest Major, and Howard Pyle.
