Notes

Ruri Iwata is the third generation in a family of glass artists. Her grandfather, Toshichi Iwata (1893-1980), taught Kyohei Fujita and is acknowledged as being at the forefront of establishing glass as an art medium in Japan. Both parents, Hisatoshi and Itoko were internationally acclaimed glass artists. Ruri's work continues the tradition, yet moves it forward, creating sensuous sculptures in glass. She has exhibited widely both in Japan and internationally, including Tradition and the Avant-Garde at the Victoria and Albert Museum, London, in 1995.
