Notes

PROPERTY FROM THE COLLECTION OF MR. RITSAERT TEN CATE, AMSTERDAM
The Dutch artist Roy Villevoye has made travel an integral part of his artistic expression. His projects made with the Asmat people of Papua explore the ramifications of the meeting of two cultures and how in this confrontation the significance of clothing and other codes is stripped of their prejudiced connotations. The present work is a clear and strong example of these explorations, combining disparate objects freed from their Western value system, ready to take on new meaning.
