ROTTIERS, Bernard Eugene Antoine (1771-1858). [Descriptions des Monumens de Rhodes. Brussels:] 1828. Atlas volume only, oblong 2° (315 x 420mm). 77 lithographic plates including the title and table of plates, 8 plates hand-coloured. (Title and map with spotting, some plates browned and spotted.) Contemporary pink paper-covered boards with large lithographic label on the upper side (rebacked in cloth, boards worn and soiled, endpapers renewed). Provenance: Richard Williams (bookplate with the motto 'Deo et fidelis regi').

FIRST EDITION. Atlas volume. Rottiers was accompanied on his archaeological mission to Rhodes by the artist P.J. Witdoeck, who depicts here the island's classical, medieval and modern monuments, including a fanciful Colossus of Rhodes. Blackmer 1450; Brunet IV, 1415.
