Notes

Rottiers's mission to Rhodes was undertaken in 1826 with permission of the Turkish authorities at the request of the King of the Netherlands. He was accompanied by his son and the artist P.J. Witdoeck. The engraved portrait is often absent from the 1830 text, but is present here.
