Notes

Bloore's approach to art was quite different from his colleagues in that they were preconceived in his mind prior to painting. He worked on masonite because of its stability. After a trip to Egypt, Greece and Turkey in 1963, he worked in all white pictures in raised relief. He would create a symmetrical pattern made up of squares or rectangles so the raised relief is almost geometric. After his visit to Egypt, Nasgaard points out perhaps the viewer will have the sensation of communication, albeit couched in an unknown or forgotten language delivered by a surface pattern of abstract calligraphy and near-archetypal symbols.
