Roger Bailey (American, 1897-1995) Original Mid Century Industrial Watercolor on wove paper, Utah Coal Mine. Signed by the artist lower left. The watercolor was in the private collection of Marshall Maynard Fredericks (January 31, 1908 – April 4, 1998) esteemed American sculptor, specializing in tremendous outdoor works from traditional romantic, through contemporary aesthetic displays and good friend of Roger Bailey. In frame measures 29 1/2"x24 1/2"x1". Weight 10 pds. PROVENANCE: The estate of Marshall M. Please contact them or your own choice of shipper directly. *** Roger Bailey (American, 1897-1995) was an award winning architect and widely exhibited artist. He served as a second lieutenant during World War II. He graduated from Cornell University in 1920. From 1922-1925 he held the Paris Prize at L'Ecole des Beaux Arts. He was the co-winner for the design of the Chicago War Memorial in 1930. In 1932, he became Professor of Architecture at the University of Michigan. He taught at Yale and Cornell from 1933 to 1938. Bailey was appointed to the University of Utah Faculty in 1949, to develop a new architectural school and plan campus development. Served as dean to 1963.
