Description

Roberts (Thomas Sautelle, 1760-1826). Scottish Highland landscape with horseman greeting a Scottish soldier in the foreground, farmworkers and cottages in the distance, watercolour on thick paper, signed and dated 1802, 49 x 70 cm (19.5 x 27.5 ins), together with a similar watercolour, finely detailed topographical view, probably Scotland, with horseman, farmworkers and dog to lower left, country house and cottages in the distance, approx. 46 x 66 cm (18 x 26 ins), some soiling and surface damage, matching period gilt frames (distressed), the first picture glazed Thomas Sautelle Roberts was a founder member of the Royal Hibernian Academy. His father was the famous architect John Roberts, designer of both cathedrals in Waterford and also the City Hall. (2)
