The first with photocopy of a handwritten note attached to the back of the frame dated 1 May 1939, signed by Cripps-Day and reading 'This helm formed part of the achievements placed over the funeral place of Henry VI by Richard III. It was removed about 1607 and placed over the garter stall of the Sovereign in St. George's Chapel, Windsor, where it remained until about 1800. About 1832, it was probably sold to Pratt the dealers in armour and was acquired by Baron Z[ouche]? in whose collection it remained until when it was sold for £16 in Stevens Sale Rooms., and was purchased by Mr. Furmage, armour dealer, sold the next day to Mr. S.J. Whawell, armour dealer, bought for £60 by F.H. Cripps-Day the week afterwards, sold at Sotheby's in 1937 for £1500, purchased for the Dean & Chapter by Lord Wakefield. Rehung in the Chapel in 1937.
