Condition Report

The following condition report has been prepared by Hamish Dewar Ltd: Structural Condition The canvas is unlined with the artist's stamps on the reverse. The turnover and tacking edges have been strengthened with what appears to be a partial strip-lining and are attached to the stretcher-bars with staples. Paint surface The heavily textured and impastoed paint surface appears structurally sound and secure. Inspection under ultraviolet light shows just the most minimal retouchings around the outer turnover edges. There are three very small retouchings in the pale pigments of the sky in the upper left of the composition, three small retouchings on the left of the lower horizontal turnover edge and a line, approximately 2 cm in length, just below the signature. There is also a very small retouching in the lower right corner. It should be stressed that these retouchings are all limited to the turnover edges and would be at least partially covered by the framing sight edge. Summary The painting would therefore appear to be in very good and stable condition and no further work is required. Please telephone the department on +44 207 293 6454 if you have any questions.
