The Arch of Constantine was erected by the Roman people after the victory of the Roman Emperor Constantine (285-337 A.D.) over Maxentius (279-312 A.D.) at the Milvian Bridge (312 A.D.). Carved out of the yellow Numidian marble are relief sculptures portraying celebrated events and victories in the life of the Emperor. The arch, which stands on the Triumphal Way between the Circus Maximus and the Arch of Titus, was built in 315 A.D.
