Description

collage/board, 36" x 26", identified on verso with a label from the Jackson State Museum (Jackson, Mississippi). This label gives the artist’s name, the title of the painting, date, and the artist’s address in Chicago at 1322 Independence; crude frame made of found materials. Rare and important African-American painter from Chicago. Jones was born in Lynchburg, Virginia. He moved to Chicago and studied at Hull House and the Art Institute of Chicago. He was a founding member of the National Conf. Artists. His work is in the collections of the Negro History Hall of Fame and the Chicago Coliseum.
