Description

Original oil painting on canvas of Stunning New York Socialite Gayfryd Steinberg by renowned portrait artist Robert Bruce Williams (1930-2008). Painted in 1976 and signed en verso by the artist. Measures 36 x 46" in frame. Stretcher measures 30" x 40". Weight approximately 10 pds. ABOUT THE SUBJECT: Canadian-born Gayfryd McNabb MacLean Johnson Steinberg Schnayerson, a Louisiana businesswoman who once ran her own steel-pipe business. Third wife of noted New York Businessman and Financier Saul Steinberg, Gayfryd was a trustee of the New York Public Library and a popular New York Socialite. The painting was done in 1976 when Gayfryd was married to her second husband, Louisiana oil tycoon, Norman Johnson. ABOUT THE ARTIST: Robert Bruce Williams was one of the most commercially successful portrait artists for about 3 decades from the mid 1960s onwards. He found a very personal way of marketing his service and enjoyed tremendous success. He painted many portraits for public figures, like portraits for Attorney General(1981-1985) William French Smith, House member William Dawson, U.S. Senator Strom Thurmond, Dante Fascell, Ray Roberts, etc. Some of those portraits mentioned above are in the collection of United State House of Representatives Art Archive. Other clients include Varon & Baroness H.H. Thyssen,Orro Preminger, King Abdul Aziz Al Saud, Jack Nicklaus, General Robert E. Kelly, Efram Zimbalist Jr., Cardinal Richard Cushing, Petula Clark, Ditch Bergman and many more.
