Notes

Rustige studied at the Düsseldorf Art Academy and counted to the first painting-class of Schadow. In 1836 he moved on to the Städelsche Kunstinstitut and was later called to professor in Stuttgart. Between 1857-1897 he was head of the Staatlichen Gemäldegalerie in Stuttgart and similataniously inspector of the Royal Gallery.
