Item Overview

Description

Ription Jacopo Guarana (Verona 1720 - 1808) Diana, oil on copper, 28.5 x 36.5 cm, framed, (Wo) Pendant to preceding lot. Jacopo Guarana was an extremely successful artist. At the age of 20 he was commissioned with the ceiling decoration of the Ridotto in Venice. Subsequently he achieved fame as an excellent decorator of the palaces of wealthy patricians in Venice and the Veneto. We thank Dario Succi for attributing the present paintings to Jacopo Guarana. Dr. Succi dates our paintings to c. 1760 and compares them with a painting (depicting Zephyr and Flora) executed by Guarana in 1762 for the summer residence, the "Chinese Palace", of the Russian Czar in Oranienbaum (today's Lomonosov).
