Portrait of Prince Maximilianowitsch Romanowsky (1812- 1852).
Signed and dated lower left: J. Richter ft. 1839. Oil on canvas. Relined. 76 x 62cm. Framed.

Prince Maximilianowitsch Romanwsky, represented here as a young man the year he married, was born in Munich 1812 as Duke of Leuchtenberg. After he wed czarevna Nikolayewna Romanowna, he inherited the title "Prince Romanowsky" and the rank as Russian Generalmajor. 1840 he was attributed to "Imperial Highness" and was later adjutant to Czar Nikolaus. He died 1852 in St. Petersburg.

Johann Heinrich Richter, a painter from Koblenz studied in Paris under Girodet and Gèrard, portrayed several members of the Leuchtenberg family, in his studio in Munich.
