The Mannheim painter Richard Stitzel trained as a decoration painter before studying at the Karlsruhe Art Academy and the Stuttgart Applied Arts School. From 1920 Stitzel freelanced, making a name for himself as a portraitist and landscape painter. The present work, painted in unusually transparent tonal values, is probably a portrait of the artist Rudi Baerwind at the age of sixteen. [NB] In good condition. The edges partially negligibly rubbed. The margins with a few small retouchings. Lower right edge with a tiny colour loss.
