Richard Norris Brooke (VA, 1847-1920), Haystacks,oil on board, signed lower right "R. N. Brooke," housed in a period, likely original, molded wood frame with ebonized and gilt decoration. A member of the "Washington Landscape School," Brooke was educated at Virginia Military Institute in Lexington and later continued his art studies at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art and while serving as US Consul in Paris. This landscape was likely completed while living in Warrenton, Virginia. DOA 16.25" x 19.25"; SS 11.25" x 14.25"
