Provenance

Provenance:Private Collection, Toronto Richard Harrington traveled to the north on six separate trips between 1948 - 1953, documenting the way of life of the Inuit in the Canadian Arctic. Known affectionately as ""Adderiorli"" - the man with the box - it was on his fourth trip that he traveled to Padlei, a remote community 200 kilometres north of Arviat. At that time, the Padleimiut were undergoing a crisis of starvation, as the caribou, their main source and supply of food, had not followed their usual migratory path. This image was reprinted by Richard Harrington in 1979, and the negative, along with his diaries, resides in the Archives of Canada in Ottawa.
