Sold by order of the Executors of the late Mr. Meyer Pudua

This watercolour may be related to a number of landscape studies which Dadd made in 1857-8. These were worked up from sketchbooks and taken from his imagination. The ruined castle is probably based upon the artist's childhood memories of Rochester Castle.
