Notes

Richard Baigent was an assistant drawing master at Winchester College. The present drawings, which are dated between 1832 and 1851, were executed whilst he was living there and before he emigrated to Canada in mid 1862. Shortly after his arrival in Toronto he began giving private drawing lessons and less than a year later he was appointed drawing master at Upper Canada College. He was elected a founding member of the Ontario Society of Artists in 1872 and was named an Associate of the Royal Canadian Academy in 1880
