Description

Ricardo de Los Rios (1846-1929) Spanish painter, etcher and printmakerwas, born in Spain but worked most of his life in Paris. He illustrated many of the works of Honor_ de Balzac (The Splendors and Miseries of Courtesans and La Com_die Humaine, for example) and the works of certain Spanish literary figures. His work continues to be found in the Museo del Prado as well as the Biblioteca Nacional de Espana. He studied under Isidore-Alexandre-Augustin Pils (1813/15-1875) at the Ecole des Beaus-Arts and worked in Paris for a long time. He then settled in Madrid, where he focused on genre scenes. Furthermore, Ricardo de los Rios was commissioned to illustrate Cervantes Don Quixote. Offered here is an original etching after a painting by Troyon, THE DRINKING-PLACE, image approx. 9.5 x 6 in. plus wide clean margins. Circa 1883. VG
